GIFs are free now in ca too
Today 8 july 2004 IST last patent of famous LZW (Algo used in GIFs) is expiring, this last patent was in Canada(so canadian time it was 7th July 2004, it expired.) So now US, Europe, And Canada all are free for LZW usuage
Will be interesting to see what unisys do now
or sites like this will still be needed, I request unisys let it be free now, it is long time they have stopped popularity of GIFs and who can forget who the popularity of GIFs declined since 1995, and yes, you IBM you also don't jump in fight this time.

Interesting story - Tale of two cities
I was just searching and trying to find the free version of paid story of forbes story
http://www.forbes.com/premium/archives/purchase.jhtml?storyURL=/forbes/2004/0412/094.html&_requestid=11987
I was expecting there must be a free version somewhere in some uni website but to my wonder it was found in forbes.com domain itself, I wonder! don't they know that google crawl forbes.com also
anyhow here is the link
http://www.forbes.com/home_europe/free_forbes/2004/0412/094.html
Pretty interesting story, and seems forbes has done good work of collecting facts.

Email world is changing -- thanks gmail
Now with the latest hotmail move of giving its user from as lil as 2mb(are we biggers?) to 250mb(here is story)
Complete email service scenario seems to be changing,
Best of hotmail was
- Its speed among internal users and notifications
- U can configure to get zero spam in your inbox, I said Inbox!!
- Great integration with its messanger, which makes email like phone call.
And well now visit yahoo, its best was:
- Reliability
- Wide platform support
- 3x more storage than hotmail
- Good local services, this was the reason most of the people in india used yahoo mail and messanger only
And than started comin time that everyone thought free email will no longer will remain free and indeed many indian email service providers literally made it paid after the both hotmail and yahoo taked out there paid version, and only reason it never got paid at that time that both of them was worried of each other, and noone wanted to take this bold step and than slowly regional players in country (like india, indiatimes, rediff; Russia, mail.ru, etc and so on) also started becomin stronger that also stopped these 2 giants to make there emails paid, but they continued putting strings around like 30 days must check mail, small size attachment, etc, etc.
And then comes the google with its plan of gmail and indeed this got so effective in its early beta that having address with gmail people took it as proud and wildely tried different way of getting one, look here for details.
And now we see these giants changing there face as with increasing ad money(yahoo makes BIG money using mail ad now) also came in picture and no one wanted to loose that good spinning cash. so now you see each of them extending there hand, yahoo has made its inbox size 100 mb, well pretty enough for normal users, so than msn started looking too small and decided to go for 250meg, though according to original track of MS i was thinking it will do this but either 25 meg or max 50 meg, but with changing face of MS(some code finally came out) now, this is also a new thing.
Lets see now what the actual future of gmail is, and no matter what gmail future is, atleast it have made sure that free users will have enough space and good services atleast for comin good years, and this can be one of the reason to say, thanks gmail.

Migrating even from windows to windows so painful
It is so hard to migrate even from one window to another window, So many things, First install most important blood line, MSN messanger, and that dam will give you error code 0x8100031a Now think how u fixed it last time, and go and kill urself and fix it(High priority bug)
Than comes mail client, so what I use is thunderbird, I have no doubt it is excellent email client, One of the best I have ever used, But ehh, It also cries in migration, And how do you move your filters? and I ended up moving the filters manually again(Previously they use to crash, somehow mozilla guys fixed in 0.6, so nice of them !!)
Anyhow I was determined of the migration, But it was pain, so I thought I will let other knows how it painful and save others time, so filed this bug over mozilla
Anyhow I am here now on my new system, well well not new It is cannoi system and my previous one was IBM, But you see this is 70 MHZ more powerful and most important have 256 MB extra RAM(Main reason of migration)
So I can keep many things in parallel now, Specially my buddy iTunes :)

day goes on
Day goes on and Led Zeppelin keep on singing banging on my head big dog.
-----------
Hey, hey, mama, said the way you move
Gonna make you sweat, gonna make you groove.
Oh, oh, child, way you shake that thing
Gonna make you burn, gonna make you sting.
Hey, hey, baby, when you walk that way
Watch your honey drip, can't keep away.
*Ah yeah, ah yeah, ah, ah, ah., Ah yeah, ah yeah, ah, ah, ah.
I gotta roll, can't stand still,
Got a flame in my heart, can't get my fill,
Eyes that shine burning red,
Dreams of you all thru my head.
Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah.
Hey, baby, oh, baby, pretty baby,
Tell me what you do me now.
(Repeat)
Didn't take too long 'fore I found out
What people mean by down and out.
Spent my money, took my car,
Started tellin' her friends she goin be a star.
I don't know what I've been told
Big lipped woman ain't got no soul
----
Day goes on this way and I guess recover from my that little feeling and look around and see the big world, and feel again small.
Well this all goes on like this, so decided to burn mozilla source and VC6 in CD move ahead to home, that s the way life will go on and you will never know...talk again little?

little feeling
It's a little bit funny this feeling inside
I'm not one of those who can easily hide
I don't have much money but boy if I did
I'd buy a big house where we both could live
If I was a sculptor, but then again, no
Or a man who makes potions in a travelling show
I know it's not much but it's the best I can do
My gift is my song and this one's for you
And you can tell everybody this is your song
It may be quite simple but now that it's done
I hope you don't mind
I hope you don't mind that I put down in words
How wonderful life is while you're in the world
I sat on the roof and kicked off the moss
Well a few of the verses well they've got me quite cross
But the sun's been quite kind while I wrote this song
It's for people like you that keep it turned on
So excuse me forgetting but these things I do
You see I've forgotten if they're green or they're blue
Anyway the thing is what I really mean
Yours are the sweetest eyes I've ever seen
I'm not one of those who can easily hide
I don't have much money but boy if I did
I'd buy a big house where we both could live

Trekking to Sunkalsa
I think it was good idea to decide for going to trekking, as I was really bored of routine weekends and looking at mozilla code over the weekends. So I decided to chip along with guys who was going to trekking. Sunkalsa is around 350 odd kms aways from Bangalore and around 20kms before a small town named Kalsa, It is towards the Mangalore, i.e. is more closer to the Sea.
We started around 10.30pm on friday nite(2nd April 2004) in the bus from kampagowda bus station, Well bus was not that kool but still one could manage with it, With the start of journey only it started raining making it better journey, but only for travel as rain could be really disaster if one wants to trekk over rocks with dry leaves layering over them to make it worse. Really tried sleeping but no lucks, But I knew if I don't sleep in the nite for couple of hours than morning will be hell to climb so not stopped trying and around 2-3 am I could had a nap but just to wake back at 4am, and another 90 mins we was at our destination i.e. in SunKalsa, it is far smaller than town and bit bigger than a village. It was all dark so we guys decided to wait on the roadside only and start journey only with dawn, So another 20 mins we waited and started journey around 5.50am in the morning and once again it proved how early down to full sunlight occur I guess it took hardly 10 mins and there was all good amount of sun light all around the area.
For sunkalsa only the valley starts but still for 3-4 kms there is stone kindof broken roads and once can manage to drive(and few can manage to rally!) as there comes small small village, But after 3-4 kms the fun starts all dark forest covered by tree both side and small valley and sometimes you have to create the way too. Was good fun walking for around 5kms and than having breakfast which includes honey which really rejuvenated. There was really couple of nice water streams in the way, the big ones we could not reach as they was all covered by dangerous tree and had no access but we can always use the smaller ones and we did. Another good experience in the way was hearing the voice of rattle snake first time in open and that too right ahead of head...voice made me feared for the first time but not next time I tried locating but could not locate the ratlle, Though again proved I love the voice of rattle and really wantto see someday how do they manage to make such sound using there tail.
We reached our destination around 11 am after covering around 10kms, Just after reaching we had a energetic drinks rested for a while and putted our tents and than had lunch than moved here and there for a while and sleep for couple of hours(This weekend I slept more than I in normally when im at home :-) )
In the evening we again moved here and there but made sure we don't go far away, and than started the mist show, I really never thought mist can look that beautiful, mist was flowing over the hills and given really good hills though these kindof scenes can be hardly captured in a camera, but it was good scene than we had dusk view though it was not that good because of all the clouds around. But best scene of the trip I saw in nite around 9pm, we was at point where we could see complete half side of western ghats and then the wind started blowing and covered all the hills we could view and than stopped keeping all those hills covered and this became more beautiful with the presence of full moon and than after around couple of minutes small mint started and slowly unveiled the hills range, that was just the most beautiful scene of nature I ever saw and I still that have snap of it in 1k megapixel and 32 bit colors in my mind :-)

Who is better linux or Windows ?
Ok here I got time from my day job, and I want to write, so here It goes.
This is actual fundamental Question, and probably above the level of believing one person or a group of person or a community, So lets do this way...We do the survey who is better.
I can bet on this MS will win by 99 votes out of 100 on this issue. Because they still have something good and still something is evolving to be better, And what happens in Open source is all people start fighting over piece of thing and atlast leave it with nothing...I am not saying this because I am STRICK opponent of Open Source, But I believe at the moment(Indeed never) working properly. Following point will prove it clearly.
Tell me how many flavours of linux we have ? That makes so many parallel efforts to go all together and all in waste. Thats really waste, seems open source don't want to work together and get something out from it, But seems now open source is just become famous for donations or just incubating a project and than sell it off, Otherwise how come this RH once for free became paid? And how about SuSE who owns it now?
Tell me we ended with how many window managers?Current one being KDE, For how long we will keep on doing this re-invention of wheels?
Tell me why do you think window have so many bugs in it? Yea rite because those dam programmers sitting in Redmond base leaves that bug, But is that Open source developers don't leave the bugs Gee...they also do? Yes goes without saying they also leaves the bug. And indeed hardly there code get reviewed too and tested? Well I know how much I have been some of the open source project for some couple of years for a stretch(Will nt name you to find bugs in it :) ). What the point I am trying to proov is that Windows is JUST not a great piece of software but it is far better than linux desktop. And why it gets those security holes everyother week is just because of reason that it is tested by gar dam millions of people and those dooods expecting so much and try so many billions of combinations that it is natural to get even in best piece of code...What best MS should do is, Do better networking and eliminate all those sh!t trick which it is doing, which includes adding some features in OS for its Office program(Ever heard of OS getting patched for product :) ) and its IE monopoly in which he do some bad ethics to reduce its start up time and worse which I came to know latest was sites are much faster when IE opens and IIS runs, Simply because than they use there own protocol instead of following complete HTTP, For GOD says Microsoft have to stop all this and try to take control over the complete internet if they really want to be in business and don't want to pack there bags and run aways with those billions of dollars they have at the moment.
And here is 0.2 cents advice for Open source guys, don't be under realism that people have to use your product because it is for free, there are millions of them out here too, put ur combined efforts, and go for it and dont take Luxury of ignorance in your products.
And make your product out there as good as windows.
This for geeks, next time something for consumers like me.

And make your product out there as good as windows.
This for geeks, next time something for consumers like me.
