I beleive this is again one of overhyped thing, and it was hyped simply because it was hot, and it was hot because it had keyword WEB2.0 browser.
Today only I got beta preview of flock and I am using it to browse from past 2-3 hours now and really don't see it any different from firefox, indeed in reality it is just a firefox only with change of few things, And I would rather say, they have changed whatever it was possible to change without touching the core part of firefox, I could smell this thing clearly when on download page of flock I see version even for mac and linux, otherwise it is not at all possible for a startup to launch for all these 3 platforms.
Following are the points which prove flock is not a new browser:
1) user agent header flock sends to a web server while making connection
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b5) Gecko/2005
1019 Flock/0.4 Firefox/1.0+
2) Type about:config on address bar and you will see what exactly config page you see on firefox
3) You can run a XPI and XUL in flock
I don't think I need any further point for proving flock is firefox with a theme and maybe some plugins pre-installed.
Now look at some of the points where flock is better than firefox
1) Favorites, It looks good to see a browser integrated with my delicious without any problem, but I thought I would be able to use by favorites with much ease, unlike in firefox where livefeed is shown all under one name, I wish there could be separate sub-menu's for my each tag, thus I can move easily in my favorites, but flock also didn't fullfilled my this wish., But still it is better than any other one.
2) UI looks much neater than firefox though I wish they could change the color of menu's also, that dark color over light really looks ugly.
3) Blog editor looks neat, though I couldn't reach to my blog using that editor as my current firewall is blocking blogspot, so I tried one of wordpress blog, and since past 15 mins it is still trying to detect my blog setting, But I consider this might be a problem at my end, and it is really handy to have a blog editor inside browser no doubt about it, indeed I believe flock do notify event technorati when you publish your blog from flock.
4)This one is my favorite, Flock has added very nice accessibility feature in dialog box which says "Allow text to be selected with keyboard" I really love browsing with caret on, as I mainly a qwerty person, but yes you can enable this feature even in firefox with about:config --> accessibility.browsewithcaret to true :)

It has been revealed that Flock is merely a juiced up Firefox browser, surely not. I was hoping it would protect against avian flu.

You can use the F7 hotkey to toggle the caret on or off in Firefox :)
Lyndon, Thanks
Dan, This is secret!, thanks for telling :-)
Greetings from North Cack-A-Lacky! I enjoyed your thoughts, although I give Firefox even a little more credit than you do, I think ;) See what I mean here: internet explorer service pack 2
