Why email upload is slower than other http file uploads?

I just now tried, tried and tried but no lucks sending a 2meg pdf file via my gmail a/c to one of my friend gmail a/c, and in last I need'd to use my favorite file upload site you send it and they could upload the same file in less than 2 minutes of time.
I think it is not only gmail but other mails also I tried sometimes back and they fail to upload files if file contents are even little bigger.

Today is last nite of Nguyen

I have been following Nguyen's case from around 3+ months, He is Australian citizen and was caught in 2002 on Changi airport, Singapore with around 400gms of heroin(~26000 normal doses) and will be executed tomorrow morning(hang till death).
Till a week back I was thinking because of extra-ordinary efforts from Australian media(mainly smh and age ) and even oz'y govt. lobbying he will not be executed and will get clemency and life in prison, but Singapore is firm on his decision of death penalty even though Australians was lobbying real hard for him, indeed they threaten Singapore by putting trade sanctions against him and they even knocked the doors of U.N and international media but all in vain! Now from last 2-3 days Australians lobbied for his mother to hug him before his execution, even John Howard made a personal request for this to Singapore PM but no success, Though I am glad they are allowing Nguyen to hold hands of his mom and brother's, here and here is the news story about it.

No doubt Singapore is strict country, but in this case to me it looks like they was try'g to show also that w/e they have done till now was correct...execution looks like too hard punishment for nguyen who don't have any criminal record as well as his first crime that too didn't hurted anyone.
Also I would like to see one more political leader now in Amnesty's candle Ad

What I am upto?

It is really being long I felt like writing something ... looks like I have lost my spirit, I seems tobe in low energy these days! Life is moving bit slow ... looks like everything is still around me and nothing is moving; I am feeling like a bird in cage and really try'g hard to find the way to get out of this cage, not sure this is a real cage or just a net over my mind.
Though one good thing happend yesterday that I got my SCEA p3 certification result emailed to me yesterday, and I just got pass'd. But surprisingly, I don't feel like party for it ... not at all, WTF !

Me and My Fathers relationship

It is pretty strange relationship, We usually talk very less even when I am at home, now over the phone probably in 1-2 months and that too don't last 3-4 minutes, and if lasted more than 5 minutes than must be problem in line and we couldn't hear each other and so look so long. In my parents I am more close to my mom than my father, but sometimes it is really strange to know by someone else or by mom that though my father don't say to me but how much he do care about me, well not only from him side it is true at my side also, but I always hate to find that I never able to confess this thing in front of him ... never !

Days need to be longer than 24 hours?

I never liked fact that it is only 24 hours in a day, Indeed I do change this for myself over the weekends or when I am on holidays(2 or more days), usually I make my day of 28 hours by loaning every day 4 hours from next day!
Indeed I just did a small research on days length on other planets and some planet have days as long as 100 days though some have as short as 10 hours, but I think if someday humans start migrating to other planets, mars should be first choice bcz it have ~24.6 hours in a day.
Here is a nice link where someone has specified some good reasons behind having 28 hours in a day.

Natwar singh & Jaya Bacchan, two different sides of Indian politics

I am not a big political buff, but being Indian I do like to read and stay aware with current political happenings in India
Firstly Mr. Natwar Singh literally pissed me off by sticking to his seat like it was his life line, despite of all news papers flashing his name in UN's Oil for food program.Okay for moment I agree with congress and Natwar Singh that Paul Volcker is a CIA spook(Or maybe pakistani agent), I also agree even UN hates him bcz of personal reasons*** But common, what goes in stepping down from the seat for sometime while the things get cool and committee gives its report? That too at age of 70+ someone’s behavior at this high position literally sounds %@#%, And on another contest whole govt has also done a excellent job, they won’t completely throw out Natwar Singh, but will make a committee, while they never made any committee for as serious thing as bird flu till guys in WHO literally pushed them to take atleast some measures.
While on otherside is there great lady Misses Jaya Bacchan gave this excellent speech in UN against Pakistan, and words was so loud and clear that no one could say anything against her, I really wonder, why not people like her comes ahead and take more responsibility and literally throw out people like Natwar Singh out from govt.

Mov'g blog to my own domain

Firstly, If you see http://long-wind.blogspot.com on your address bar in browser? than it is time to modify your favorite to WWW.SP2P.NET as your looking at place where I don't publish anywhere.

Actuall it is being pretty long that my last hosting service from tubu expired, and till now I was using my domain sp2p.net redirect to long-wind.blogspot.com but just now I have got amazing hosting deal from dreamhost and it took me only 15 mins in this complete migration, I guess credit of this ease goes to blogger, It is the reason that I have stopped myself from migrating to awesome wordpress till now.

So from now, my blog domain is again WWW.SP2P.NET

Cost of keeping phone on bed while sleeping

Today it happened once again after 1+ years that somehow while I was sleeping and my phone was laying somewhere on my bed that I pressed those magical numbers which lead to deletion of my all calendar entries, now for coming months I will be forgetting birthdays and anniversaries of my friend and relatives and hearing complains from them later on, really frustrating and annoying feeling, I always realize after the loss only that I should have kept backup of my phone memory.
But despite of this incident happening 2nd time now, I would still like my phone only to keep those tasks stored and I don’t want to feed those details on any of the website, but this time I would make sure I would take backup atleast.

Faced DRM first time, it stopped me playing my song on my music player

DRM, Till now I am sure I have heard enough , mostly the horror stories that how it will stop living us with full freedom and all, and really even heard stories from other people that how bad it can be, but never really realized till today when it really stopped me playing my favorite song on my ipod!Following is what I get when I try to play it on itunes, i.e. can't even play on my system

Really can't stop myself saying "BIG THANKS" to apple for doing this to me, showing who will have remote control in future, for now I am moving to windows media player, and I am already seeing atleast one benefit, I see it consumes far less CPU cycles than what dirty iTunes used to, but really afraid if I update windows too and it might stop playing this song there too ...

Flock, a new browser or firefox with different theme & few plugins?

I beleive this is again one of overhyped thing, and it was hyped simply because it was hot, and it was hot because it had keyword browser.
Today only I got beta preview of flock and I am using it to browse from past 2-3 hours now and really don't see it any different from firefox, indeed in reality it is just a firefox only with change of few things, And I would rather say, they have changed whatever it was possible to change without touching the core part of firefox, I could smell this thing clearly when on download page of flock I see version even for mac and linux, otherwise it is not at all possible for a startup to launch for all these 3 platforms.

Following are the points which prove flock is not a new browser:

1) user agent header flock sends to a web server while making connection
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b5) Gecko/2005
1019 Flock/0.4 Firefox/1.0+
2) Type about:config on address bar and you will see what exactly config page you see on firefox
3) You can run a XPI and XUL in flock

I don't think I need any further point for proving flock is firefox with a theme and maybe some plugins pre-installed.

Now look at some of the points where flock is better than firefox
1) Favorites, It looks good to see a browser integrated with my delicious without any problem, but I thought I would be able to use by favorites with much ease, unlike in firefox where livefeed is shown all under one name, I wish there could be separate sub-menu's for my each tag, thus I can move easily in my favorites, but flock also didn't fullfilled my this wish., But still it is better than any other one.

2) UI looks much neater than firefox though I wish they could change the color of menu's also, that dark color over light really looks ugly.

3) Blog editor looks neat, though I couldn't reach to my blog using that editor as my current firewall is blocking blogspot, so I tried one of wordpress blog, and since past 15 mins it is still trying to detect my blog setting, But I consider this might be a problem at my end, and it is really handy to have a blog editor inside browser no doubt about it, indeed I believe flock do notify event technorati when you publish your blog from flock.

4)This one is my favorite, Flock has added very nice accessibility feature in dialog box which says "Allow text to be selected with keyboard" I really love browsing with caret on, as I mainly a qwerty person, but yes you can enable this feature even in firefox with about:config --> accessibility.browsewithcaret to true :)

joining the IM islands

Couple of hours while I was jogging around my condominium, just to make sure that I don't have any regret on monday morning about not working out this weekend too; While I see some friend of mine talking to our another friend in Denmark and suddenly a thought come in my mind, how come these differnt mobile providers are able to talk to each other, well, reply is surely simple, they have to comply to standards else they will loose business, now another thought comes in my mind why is it tak'g forever to join the IM networks, this is really unfair to isolate millions of people in peaces, though jabber is really good start, but it is not backed by any major IM network and neither any govt. so it might take forever for world to migrate to this protocol and companies like AOL,Yahoo,MSN,ICQ are going to make this client better and better but will not open there network, and surely they don't view any economic benefit, while in truth there can be alot of not only social benefits but economic benefits and VOIP over it can be like bless directly from god, so I come back from jogg and after quick bath get stick to my system again and try to search if this was any time in past planned or any organization is try'g to make sure all they can communicate, and I get this beautiful story according to which yahoo and msn might open gates to each other by mid nxt year, here is the link, this news truly put a light in my eyes, atleast things have started to change now, hopefully one day all IM networks in the world will be able to interact to each other as smoothly as a call from one mobile operator to another mobile operator.

delicious is down right now

Okay, I really don't wanted to write this, atleast not after my past post, But can't help, I am right now facing one of the inherited disadvantage of web2.0, that is your system can't do anything without server, and pretty strange feeling, but yeah delicious is down right now, and I really dunno what to browse now, as all my favorite links and todo-read etc lists are there, without it I'll be just end up wasting time in surfing things of no use to me ...

5 reasons why delicious can be new google for search?

Surely if I say del.icio.us is gonna be a bigger repository to find information than google, than even I would say, I am just being big mouth, But looks like this is going to be true very soon, though indeed not really many people have yet started using delicious to dig those reliable information that too real fast.
Here are the five reasons which strongly make me believe above

Reason #1: Google crawls the webpages and index information by robotically determining the type of webpage and try somehow associating it with certain keywords, Yeah real process might be a zillion times more complex, but this is the summary for we layman's, while in delicious user saves there link, no crawler(avoid contents which no=ones cares about)

Reason #2: Google determine type of page by robotic means and than associate somehow those pages with certain keywords, while in case of delicious, those google robots are being replaced by real humans and they are tagging the pages and giving description to those pages, so later one is going to be far far more accurate than automated ones, bcz of obvious reasons; Also in google case link exchange and dozens of industries are being evolved which helps you to increase your google rating as it is easy to fool robots, but in case of delicious input comes from user, so delicious can put a simple robo checks by image and make it real fool proof system(to some extend)

Reason #3: Out of indexed results, google uses a dam good algo(reason behind its success) to find out which link should be shown in what sequence, on top being the best match, but in case of delicious, they can really use a simple algo, out of indexed results, simply put the pages first which are favorites of more number of users

Reason #4: Delcious can show more current search results as with the speed things evolve on net(e.g. web2.0 site meebo) and other things are evolving, any site/link/page can become a big resource in a day, but it might take some good weeks for google to recognize and put that particular match as first result, while in delicious it can be instant hit as we all know how mouth of word publicity works and with that favorites will change so automatically that new link will comes on top if they use algo on number of favorites, and this comes without any delay, so you always get best related results.

Reason #5: Delicious is more logical approach to organize data, instead of robots organizing data by guesses, while in case of delicious it don't only solves the bookmarks problem, but indirectly it is hitting more important problem by making real humans organizing the data over web.

Now only point delicious misses is that they don't give any real way to find there repository, so you have to be savy user and need to guess tags and search using that, I believe this the right time they should have generic search now, where entered keyword will be searched across link, description as well as tag and shown the resultls, Yes, this is not the delicious main business is, but they need to understand that information they are storing is grown massive and it is the right time people really start getting benefitted by it.

Note: Because of obvious reasons delicious will not be able to help for every search on planet and in last they both have to share the same eco, As algo google uses still remain useful as some people really don't know what exactly they are looking for, or for some cases where you don't expect anyone to have that link in there favorite, for instance if you want to know details of API Image::GetThumbnailImage than best way will be google it, but say if you are looking for some resources for some certification, say scea, most suggested approach should be http://del.icio.us/tag/scea and you will get far more better resources than google can give you in a shot.

yahoo being overlooked, advantage or disadvantage for them ?

Just now I finished reading this wharton article Why is Microsoft afraid of Google and surprisingly I don't think wharton guys even considered looking at yahoo too for same thing, while yahoo has recently shown real good products and unveiling(via M&A though) real great thing, honestly I strongly think people just got use to off overlooking yahoo, reason can be yahoo is pretty old and consistent and we got use to ignoring things like these in our daily lifes, while yahoo is the one who is big corporate from long time and still kept innovation there alive while google only couple of years back turned from startup to corporate and they still need to show that they can do same magic things even with there big size, I don't know this timely feeling or what, but I think google is just too overhyped in baloon of web2.0 and other things.

yahoo! don't fail to surprise me

In past couple of years I have literally felt that yahoo is not only sustaining well, but emerging really well and doing hell lot of creative work, which according to my experience is really not easy until and unless a great culture, environment and great desire to be creative is pushed from top down, there is really no reverse theory here, it never ever happens that top people will learn from people at bottom and can change things, it is always motivations and desires from top to bottom which drives the companies and yahoo is really doing good at this, now in acquisitions they are no ebay, they really know what exactly they want and choosing them silently but carefully, flickr being the biggest and best deal I would say they got, and just now they have acquired upcoming.org which is also not so old(2 years) and managed by only 3 people.
Hats off to yahoo team at top!

any hack to send ipod mini to deep sleep directly ?

Lately I have started using my ipod only once in 3-4 days, and the day I use it, I make sure I give him complete charge, but nxt time w/e I pick up, it starts immediately which means it was not in deep sleep, despite of the fact that I havn't touched it more than 36hrs, which is official time by Apple when untouched ipod goes in deep sleep, also after a song or two and sometimes maximum of 20 minutes this dude is again on power low and starts blinking about it, Really strange behavious, I am surely going to try few things over it, like instead of stopping between the song, make sure I stop it and things like that, But I am still surprised by the fact that there is no way to put pod directly in deep sleep, I did found a linux stuff ... But really don't wanna try those things for now, anyone with any magical hack ?

Friend's visit, Hectic day, rainy evening, and least expected gift

It was almost over 4.30am on Friday morning when I went to bed as I came back around 2am from a friends place after a small party and than really wanted to work on something which I have been working on from long time now, than 7.30am comes the call of my friend who was taking a connecting flight via here, as we had already planned about it, he took the train from airport till the town and I picked him up from the station, was really good to see him after many months as he is the one I remain in touch a lot by emails and phone, now he wanted a good coffee, it was little over 8.30am and I didn’t expect any shopping mall to fully open so decided to hang around somewhere near my place so we drove to a small shopping mall near my place, but yeah neither star bucks nor coffee bean was open by that time, so we ended up in mcdy’s and for the change I really liked the breakfast and it was the first time I could actually finish the coffee from mcdy’s, though he was as usual complaining that they have put creamer, I wanted black coffee!
Rest of the day passed by neatly as we took the walk near down town, did some shoppings, goofing , his flight was 5.30pm back, so I dropped him around 3.45pm to same station and since he already had a boarding pass so no check In was required, all what he needed was to just reach airport, while I really was not aware of this, and was pushing him to rush, while I was driving back there was heavy rainfall and for a moment it felt like someone is actually doing this intentionally to break the glasses of all the cars, and when I was home there was this beautiful gift waiting for me in postal box, it was a nice black colored ipod armor, but holly !$@, I am hardly going to use this thing, there are other ipod accessory and other stuffs which I desparately want to have, mainly a nice docking station which can utter descent quality of sound, but most on my mind are at moment are these German speakers which I would really like to own, very soon.

Petronas twin tower seen via google earth

IE7 can show two drop down components together

Okay above issue is happening really frequently and Im bit distracted, This seems to be somehow related with issue my friend Ravneet have posted sometimes back.
I really wonder, when rule says there can't be any two drop down s like menu's or combo all together even across applications than how come IE7 is able to show these type of dropdown all together in same window. Moreover, neither of them will go and you can't do anything else than move focus out and bring it back and problem solved, Okay yeah I have seen this issue in many others apps too ...

all time delicious

Whenever you wanna check for the most delicious site, you go to del.icio.us/popular, issue with it is that it shows the most popular links for that time, and never of last 24,48 hour, or say for all time popular, so here we go, so this dude xabi has created this populicio.us and there you can see all time popular on delicious, and there all time high is /. well honestly I didn't expect slashdot to be alltime high, as I never thought even its user need to add it to favorites, so surely delicious is not place for just favorites, but it is essentially becoming a platform which can be linked to dozens of different places.

Loomia , place to get/play good podcast

I am one of those who like to restict use of iTunes for pod synchronization only, and hate to make it platform and this is the reason I never till now downloaded any podcasts from iTunes(Even free ones) and rather was depending on odeo to download for me, and even I do download manually my favorite ones like venture voice sometimes, But recently I am getting addicted to finding real good podcasts using loomia, they give far better search results than old odeo and moreover they bridge one interesting limitations, some people really wanna hear them while they are behing proxy/firewalls which don't allow music file download, so these guys even allow you to play online those shows.

Vacation time again

This coming saturday I will be starting my 2 weeks long waited(7 months) vacation, and yeah I am really looking forward for it, I am going my home town Jaipur and do plan to spend most of the time there only though at the same time plans I have to drive around country side too, I usually work-out more busy during my vacations than normal routine, indeed sometimes on my visit to home I cut my sleep time too to take those few extra hours to use, nahh I am not the one who think vacation is for sit around and sip martini, but rather go terrains and do that extra which usually one is not able to do during his routine.
So yeah, lemme know who all will be present in Jaipur/Delhi between 27Aug to 11Sep, and maybe we can arrange a nice meeting and sip martini :-)

To IE7 Dev team, Why will you not maintain even M$ GUI standards

Slashdot sometimes back reported that some chief guru of windows called IE7 as cancer, well the reason was because IE7 don't follow standards and even failing the basic test www body for browser compatibility, I was waiting from long time to rub my hand over it, Yesterday nite I atlast I got that anyhow, thanks to Ravneet. And it really surprised me to see that now Microsoft will not even follow there own standards, from years it is being practise that to close a document in MDI we need to use hotkey ctrl+4 to close the window, but IE7 will get close by ctrl+W, and not by standard key, yes technically IE7 is not MDI but to naive user it is MDI application and will remain so, and every1 on this planet is going to waste few seconds in learning this hot key, and not only this, now Alt+F --> C will not close browser too but Alt+F --> X, so lot of current automated web tests will also fail and organization will put lot of efforts solving this issues, Sometimes I feel this all might be intentional by company, reasons can be a dozen which really might make sense though only to them.

nice music album by tryad

I am listening to song our lives changes from tryad. You can download complete album
Here.
Yeah, Not all songs you will like :-)

externalization headache

It seems that lately I am suffering because of a top secret between me and god, 6 months back I architected the project in which I suggested lot of externalization, well yeah I was not wrong externalization if possible is always good for big monsters, but this one seems to be asking for more of maintenance effort than I can see its advantages, now even a small change require me to make sure that corresponding exernalization module is also sync'd, and this externalization is used till now ONLY once, and trust me those configuration files are getting really a issue by development team(not me :-) ) and it really worries me sometimes that whole thing might come down one day, I wish meta data feature of tiger was released in mantis than I would have been really able to keep this effort real less, And this time I would have surely tried my dream feature, meta tag with XPath, let me describe it little bit here, as most of the file size of configuration goes in describing mapping location, how about keeping a unique id with meta-tag and specify its corresponding xpath location with it ... sounds like a dream to me, I would really love to see if anyone has done anything like that yet, I can think of doing this by putting a preprocessor before compile, but I believe than there is no way we can avoid recompilation, than is it worth even doing the externalization :-) ?

del.icio.us is actually delicious

From past couple of months I have been using del.icio.us and initially had trouble with its URL too, What a meaningless URL, though there service rocks.
Someone last evening was testing a external hard-disk over my laptop and he saw these icons on my firefox bookmarks toolbar
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
And says, delicious, I was shocked, DAM how on earth I couldn't think this from past so many weeks, where is my mind staying these days.

Fight with loneliness is getting harder

Last complete week was really heavy over since I moved to this town on feb1st of this year. Initially it was okay, and since I always lived with friends or some room mates in the past, So this time I really wanted to see how tough it can be living alone, Initially it was alrite, but slowly it was getting tougher and tougher, initially hooking over the net or playing ps2 late nights really was working, but since last one month I am feeling like I have lost the energy to fight loneliness, This has become a normal routine for me to come back at home not before 11pm on weekdays so that I don't need to spend anytime alone, and on weekends it is being real tough now, sometimes I come back home, park my car 3 levels up and than really think what I am going to do at home, and than without deciding any destination I go back, This is what happend yesterday night, I came back around at 8pm back, and than without going in my apartment, decided to go back, than reached a theatre, saw which all movies are playing, I had seen all the hollywood movies playing there, So decided to see a movie Initial D which in cantonese but with english sub-title, came back home around 1am and couldn't sleep till another 2 hours and now having a serious headache and thinking should go office or no, This insominia reminds me about a nasty comment I left a week or so back on a blogger from mumbai where I was making fun about her insomnia ... But somehow even after passing all this, I am still preferring to stay alone than moving with any of friend I know of, As I really want to test the limits, also I think living loneliness gives you lot of energy, you can really use this energy to drive yourself way way ahead, though it doesn't seems to be working for me.

suffering from conjunctivitis

Tuesday morning just after getting up it was very clear that it is no normal tuesday, and doubt was correct I got conjunctivitis, and now wednesday morning my another eye couldn't resist and she also got this disease,
so off from work from past 2 days and now wearing dark sun glasses even in dark places like parking lot, etc and facing the strange looks.
In answer to some of the questions and comments about from where I got this, I have no idea, only thing I remember about monday was I readed Martin Fowler blog and felt really sorry for him that he got his some bones broken.

archive.org under attack: at last

It is being long time I am wondering how come no one is sue'g archive.org and here we go
I think it was very high probability of someone su'g them, as sometimes you really want to take this information offline, forever, but this guy really stick to it like gum and never leaving it off, indeed sounds like controversial concept, Though I would certainly agree that there are many advantages too it also at the same time...

PS: Photographs of amazon, yahoo, google I posted couple of days back was mined using archive.org (I forgot to specify in that post)
And yes, this news is courtesy slashdot

JBI revisited: It works

Okay I eat my words that I posted last time about JBI. It do work this time when I tried on a system with SJSAS installed, and indeed this is pre-requistee for JBI which I missed. Though run sample example don't work all smoothly and you need to edit the example ant file, but honestly one shouldn't expect things to be more smoother than this for the product which is just in version 1.0(that too from sun :-) )
Sample application I tried uses SunFileBinding, SunSequenceEngine, SunSOAPBinding & SunTransformationEngine.

Market is always much bigger than we think

Last nite I was hearing the interview from venture voice where Greg was interviewing Philip Kaplan of adbrite, Philip made a interesting point around the end of the podcast, he said google is getting like billions from his adword/adsense program but still it is not even 1% of total advertising money spent alone in US, So there is always a space for people.
To me make lot of sense, As I tend to sometimes go in numbers and calculate in terms of economics which mayn't be really correct always.

Tried JBI(Java Business Integration): Failed

It is being long I was keeping an eye on Java Business Integration of which recently 1.0 version is being released, And I must admit this is excellent idea, this thing can really fly as co-operates are spending hefty amount of $ in SAO technologies products(to name few TIBCO, Webmethods)
recently decided to try the latest 1.0 version, But couldn't try, anyone can see the following screen and easily guess why I couldn't
Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Yes, I simply don't have Sun app server on my system, But this time Sun's installer will not guess even this small thing, To be honest I really fail to understand why they can't learn from there earlier product installations and why everything should be started again & again from ground
I feel like asking them following questions
a) For windows why can't you use MSI when Java standard edition SDK is already using it, But rather you create a complex java GUI which takes years to mature ?
b) Why there is no manual installation steps or even readme or help file in installation zip? Yes I have seen installation link on web
c) Why can't I use the other app server? And why shouldn't you see which application server have highest market share and first make auto installation for them and rest can have manual installation.

Overall I am really disappointed bcz not able to try few demo's under it.
Anyone any lucks?

Highest played count on my ipod

ALANIS MORISSETTE "Sorry To Myself"

For hearing all my doubts so selectively and
For continuing my numbing love endlessly.
For helping you and myself: not even considering
For beating myself up and over functioning.

To whom do I owe the biggest apology?
No one's been crueller than I've been to me.

For letting you decide if I indeed was desirable
For myself love being so embarrassingly conditional.
And for denying myself to somehow make us compatible
And for trying to fit a rectangle into a ball.

And
To whom do I owe the biggest apology?
No one's been crueller than I've been to me.

I'm sorry to myself.
My apologies begin here before everybody else.
I'm sorry to myself.
For treating me worse than I would anybody else.

For blaming myself for your unhappiness
And for my impatience when I was perfect where I was.
Ignoring all the signs that I was not ready,
And expecting myself to be where you wanted me to be.

To whom do I owe the first apology?
No one's been crueller than I've been to me.

And
I'm sorry to myself.
My apologies begin here before everybody else.
I'm sorry to myself.
For treating me worse than I would anybody else.

Well, I wonder which crime is the biggest ?
Forgetting you or forgetting myself...
Had I heeded the wisdom of the latter,
I would've naturally loved the former.

For ignoring you: my highest voices.
For smiling when my strife was all too obvious.
For being so disassociated from my body,
And for not letting go when it would've been the kindest thing.

To whom do I owe the biggest apology?
No one's been crueler than I've been to me.

And
I'm sorry to myself.
My apologies begin here before everybody else
I'm sorry to myself.
For treating me worse than I would anybody else.
I'm sorry to myself.
My apologies begin here before everybody else
I'm sorry to myself.
For treating me worse than I would anybody else

Book review: Struts survival guide

From past couple of days I was looking for some book for struts(free pdf) which is good fun to read and refreshen up the whole concept and at the same time have good setup for examples which can be tried without much efforts.
I tried many which includes Struts live but was really disappointed by the quality of book, till I got this book, struts survival guide from Shrikant Shinoy. He has made it really interesting read and told quite practical problems which people in day to day face, and comes up with good setup of examples too :)

Late in the Game: Sun Enters Laptop Game

Exactly when most big companies are trying to get out of desktop business and laptop business is at it all time high, Sun has entered laptop business, And good thing this time is that price is quite competitive, But again I think they missed current demand, which is full multimedia support, as even people they targeting(Scientist and engineers) keep tons of multimedia contents.

Church of XML

I was part of the discussion where someone was determined to remove X from AJAX, that means no xml in returned call ... He made few really strong comments in favour and requested/begged that we don't need to use it just to follow standards which are mistake by itself, and than this hilarious link came-up, I loved it :))

Church of XML
Have you ever felt that empty feeling inside, the feeling that something in your life is missing? If you have, then you probably don’t know about XML yet. XML is like all your dreams fulfilled; everything that seemed unrelated, coming together. See the light, taste the honey, enter the world of XML

Looking at Ruby on rails and ajax

It is being really interesting to see how many web frameworks have been developed now(IBM WSBCC, struts, spring, tapestry, JSF) and sometimes I feel like a standardization is really needed in case of webframeworks also, But again I think, it is probably non-standardization probably which is driving this market largely, as different people in the world have really all different kindof needs and it is really not easy to standadize, okay I re-phrase it as standization is needed but not in the early stages, In early stages things should go wild and there should be good amount of competition between all of these frameworks.
Sometimes I feel how about merging some webframework with ajax? To me it sounds like a marriage made in heaven, But I wonder why anyone havn't done this. As even with ajax we can probably reduce the number of pages required in application but we will still have different pages, so we will still require some webframework to manage them.

Okay, it is being long day now ... :)

Online sight seeing

Multi tasking

--> Sipping a cappuccino in a SFO coffee bar
--> Having a cheese cake
--> Talking to my oldtime buddy on MSN(gog's) who is at unidentified location :))
--> And most important checking out googlesightseeing

Google sight seeing is really amazing hack which is build over google map, Surely this is a illegal and I have no doubt that this site will be soon down by googles legal team, oh yeah they have just successful in pulling down another very creative thing http://gmerge.2ni.net which again was build over google maps.
But again they might consider about sightseeing as to me this looks like a community tool where people are posting just some interesting photo's.

JBoss IDE giving me grief at the moment

It is being little long I really played with JBoss's eclipse IDE so decided to try what is latest in this organized shop, Latest one was JBossIDE-1.4.1-jre1.5-e31.zip so decided to give it a try, so downloaded latest eclipse also as it requires 3.1M4+ and I am still using 3.0x version.
Okay both are there, now I install and like always closed my eyes and expect it to work but get following error

Image hosted by Photobucket.com

Sometimes I believe they are best out there, but they still need to give that more fine touch and test there stuffs really well, Though they are still far better than even some commercial companies.
Also felt like saying, they still need to work little more in ease of read in documentation, like w/e you specify the changes in documents, please specify the changes highlighted and just below them specify the file name in which we need to change so that people who likes to try quickly can just see those blocks and can go ahead instead of reading the complete document.
But truth is, We always want more :)

Signaling thread about JVM exit

Last nite I was trying to make a small program which works something like Stop watch, I was trying to keep watch functionality totally different from presentation, Then suddenly I needed a way to "Signal thrad about JVM exit", Not sure if in past I ever needed it, but I was literally stuck kindof for a moment before I came up with 2 workarounds
1) Check for user exit event in GUI and signal thread for stopping.
2) Write a finalize method in thread container and make sure u stop thread in finalize.

But 2nd step will not work in scenario like JVM exit without doing any garbage collection, So leaving with only available option i.e. step 1.
But I wonder, What If you don't want to track of all the dynamic weak object references(having some worker thread in them) which are created and destroyed dynamically?
I am sure if we just exit the JVM it assures all threads are stopped, but what if you want to do something specifically only on JVM exit? I guess for this step 1 is the only way.

Battery FREE wireless mouse

Last nite I was surfing in a hardware shop, looking specifically for some USB mouse, wanted to avoid wireless as it requires batteries, and there I see this new innovative product it is a wireless mouse which don't need battery at all...at first glance I really picked up the product, Than was wondering why they are giving this mouse pad, and yes there is some wire inside, why it is for ? Than saw a demo of it ... okay it is battery free, and very light weight also, but catch is, it works only on the mousepad which they give, and this mousepad needs battery from your USB port, So it is actually battery FREE wireless mouse, BUT dependent on mousepad :)

Unfair preparation for jungle show to indian prime minister

Indian Prime minister went to a wildlife sanctuary and next day news come that he was lucky enough to spot a tigress during his visit, even he himself said this in press conference.
But no-one published and I wonder even Mr Prime Minister himself know that what is the background of him seeing this tigres, and how much preparation forest authority did to make sure he spot that tigres, and in this game which I will call unfair they even hurt tigres by separating with her kids, This news was present in a local hindi news paper (sorry for those who can't read hindi) but even this news paper is projecting like forest authority did some right work, Most surprising I feel about our ministers, who never tries to see what is the background of information or view they are seeing, they should go and see another side of coin too, if not often than atleast sometimes.

Can't stop myself from saying good job to Michael Dell for this beautiful piece of art, I think dell is changing now from ugly piece of boxes to good design, Though still I would say they need to little better quality of plastic and not cheaper one, As it do start smelling once it become too hot
Here is the cnet review which really helped me alot to go for this.

Microsoft windows antispyware

Microsoft has recently launched a excellent tool called AntiSpyware I installed it couple of days back and it already started giving return,If any program during installation tries to copy itself in startup or run registry than this will warn you and you can decide whether you want it to allow or deny, Thus giving you better control of your system, by allowing only those services to run always which you really need them and not one which you hardly use once in a month.

Is open source loosing its track ?

Apache is going to start there own J2SE implementation, here is the proposal mail in apache domain; Now I got the strong feeling that entire open source community is loosing its track, Was Geronimo not enough joke? And otherside IBM is taking full advantage by slowly killing JBoss
I think it's time for entire OS community to stay focused instead of being scattered and busy producing low end products.

little reliable place to download latest mp3's

mp3.baidu.com
Baidu is most famous search engine of china, and was acquired by google sometimes back. Here you can search the latest mp3's and most of the times you get it, Baidu doesn't store mp3's but just point out the reliable illegal(possible?) websites which have that mp3 for download, usually within chinese domain only ... huhh

How windows search can be faster ?

Last nite I was trying to configure my new system(Windows XP Home SP2) and than I noticed that this windows can read zip file even without winzip, that was fantastic as I didn't had winzip installer neither any connectivity, so I started unzipping a 44Meg zip file using its windows internal unzipper, and it says 29 mins...28 mins... and it was literally taking this long time, When it was showing 19 mins remaining than I lost my patience and installed WinRAR and noted time
2min installation
+
1 min in unzipping 44 Meg file

Saved 16 mins, I wish I could embed winRAR unzipping engine in OS so that my xp can be even faster when searching files inside compressed files

Disappointing yesterday ...

Yesterday I went to play badminton in condominium(Cyberia) near my office ... Can't believe, I lost 4 games, my confidence is badly shattered, at one point in singles I was ahead by 6 points(love 6) and I still lost, In the last I literally pushed myself hard and even strain my leg muscle, But I guess I was mentally not fit yesterday ... anyways who plays to win, we play just to sweat ... thats the dialog comes out from my partner in last :)
And just to finish it nicely I needed to pay $20 to cabby driver while going home ... and at 11pm a dude calls me up and say you must be at sleep ... he brought this new Proton Gen-2 that day only and was sounding like he desparately wanted to go on drive, so we went on a quick drive around mega mall.

Someone posted cool pics of Pixar HQ ( /. can ignore it )

Forbes article about Apple

Forbes has published article about apple
Here they are comparing Apple with Microsoft, Reason is since Apple have recently sued couple of websites which was leaking information about there upcoming products even before they declare about it...well I don't see this as wrong, Apple now a days working in REAL competitive environment, mainly the mp3 market is really hi-tech and technology changes as quickly as a quarter, so I don't believe nothing wrong in putting a barrier to this leak, After all they want tobe competitive. Apple was not at all doing this years before, and those sites and many more exists from years, but now if they leak something which really can help there competitors then it makes sense to stop this, They are not eating or killing competitors, they are just trying to be best, nothing wrong in this I see.
What do you think about this ?

one more gmail bug

Okay, im really not so pragmatic about google or gmail, but this one is too tempting for me, Can't stop myself from publishing.
Have a look at the senders name, and look what gmail is giving name for invitation, they ate 2 characters of it.

Surely problem looks like some strings are not handled properly, after all who don't make mistakes when string comes embedded with white space, like this one.

Web experience : Ajax leads JPSpan

Before one get boredam of the existing webapplications there is some new child pops up and gather users attention, well this time it is not a new one, but a years old, and comes up with example of its potential, Our very old baby which I believed had a great potential is again in limelight.
what it can do?
Try this google suggest beta and type a word and you will see the magic, client actually pushes something in backend and gets data and indeed uses it to give more lively user experience,
This is done using javascript engine, but not the old hack of image loading, as that I believe is already blocked by IE, But it uses XMLHTTPRequest in the background.
But I still really don't know the reason of google, amazon, etc investing in Engines like Ajax than jpspan which a php and Javascript combinations, and also free., Though one clear disadvantage of later one is it limits you to php on server side, which I agree is not really only cool thing out there.
Can anyone add more here?

Artificial species

Its being very long I can recall that I heard of artificial species ... most probably in some book as I like reading those kindof books.
But this concept I saw lately(8-10 months backs) first time in movie in "I Robot" where Bill Smith fight against Robo's rule, And now today 03 Feb 2005, I heard it for real that some S. Korean researcher sponsored by HP is planning to give Robo's sex drive and will eventually allow them to reproduce, Well truly speaking im just shocked by this news.
Here are the links from some major sites over this

FISH

I have been reading this book last day name'd "Fish" it is from Stephen Lundin, Harry Paul and John Christensen, it is kinda series book taking a story and tells how to boost your moral and create a good working environment no matter you love what you working or not, I liked it, I am going to read its next series whenever I get time
Here is a nice poem from this book
I want to write about faith
about the way the moon rises
over cold snow, night after night

Faithful even as it faides from fullness
slowly becoming that last curving and impossible
silver of light before the final darkness
but I have no faith myself
I refuse to give it smallest entry

Let this then, my small poem
like a new moon, slender and barely open,
be the first prayer that opens me to faith.

More information about this philosophy can be found on fishphilosophy

Starting of last week in Bangalore

Okay now this is pretty much certain that I will be leaving this town(Bangalore) and my company(Sun microsystems) and this is my last week out here, and today being monday I am having kindof mix reaction as monday is the day where my mental hormones get released I guess...
Anyways, Don't want to get overwhelmed so here I will talk about weekend.
I ended up watching 2 movies, Kisna and Page3, Kisna was a unsuccessful attempt by Shubash Ghai, but "page 3" came out to be excellent movie it was story of journalist movie which was "page 3"(masala page) editor and she found herself in strange situation where people are making strange type of compromises to be successful in life using shortcut and this is indeed truth and examples are around everyone, but she refused to make this kindof compromises and GWS(Goes without saying) suffers, but this clearly show the real of face the dirty society we are developing and moreover sometimes ... rather are so proud of it.
Another important thing we did was, we shifted to T2's house since I am going this friday so making this weekend as last day for shifting for my room mate, kinda hectic but manageable, but only thing is I havn't got proper sleep from last 2 days and moving around with red eyes, and every1 thinking it as hangover as usual ... :)

NYT - Face off China

Here is a great article by New York Time, It is not about old Kyoto protocol or another story about rise of dragon but it tells how the cost of this rise is being paid by rural people and to some extend even by urbanites and how much dragon is ignoring them, From around a year or 2 all I was seeing in news was just Shanghai or Beijing and there high rise buildings or there state of the art Infrastructure or news about there great FDI, etc, Though I knew this is not really the picture but just a tiny part of this massive country, As surely it can't be all rainbow and people are literally surfing and paying cost, even in developed cities like Beijing and Shanghai people are feared to even talk about bad part of dragon.
Though in some points you can really compare this with India when it comes to difference between Urban and Rural India it is really increasing here too, and same applies for pollution and same applies for pollution and health but difference is here people have right to protest and media also helps them sometimes and really make the difference, recently there are such examples came in when media reported and then state govt acted on it.

Bob Cringely's predictions of 2005 are out

Okay at last, after a long wait, it is out
you can see them here
I kinda big fan of Bob by now, But not necessary he will be always rite, he was not rite even on all points in 2004, and one point about which I disagree this time is:
---
12) There is no evidence that Sun will change its current course, which is inexorably downward. I know Jonathan Schwartz thinks I'm crazy, but so far I am more right than he is, and hear no reason coming from him why that should change.
---
I wish he will be wrong about this, But I can't see anything big plan also from Sun in this year, Apart from Mustang(JDK 1.6) which will be out sometimes in mid 2005
But yes I agree strongly with his 10th point
---
10) In 2005, the major beneficiaries of the Peoplesoft-Oracle merger will be SAP and IBM, NOT Peoplesoft or Oracle customers, despite anything Larry Ellison says ("Oversupport" Peoplesoft customers? -- sheesh).
---

So lets see what goes this year, But I am just wondernig is Bob is trying to play safe this year, Otherwise why didn't he made any predictions over
- iPod future
- Outsourcing halla
Are u there Bob ? :)

Summarizing 2004

So here is the end of the another golden year of my life,

This year I really saw many changes{Ups and downs} in life and really learned alot of things from life, This year brought me closer to myself and I under myself little better than what I use to earlier.

What I learned
--> I learned how to react in bad times and how to cope up with stress, surely this is going to be useful in rest of the life.
--> I learned how to stay away from selfish people, And really saw a bigtime crap person in life, thanks I have my distances now.
--> I learned how to be inactive while still being actively involved.
--> I now more strongly believe, one of the biggest treasure of life are good friends and tight family ties.
--> I learned how to say no
--> I learned to adapt changes, and indeed pretty fast.

What I liked
--> I think I still hold that zeel to some extend and some determination power, as to prove this only I gave SCEA Part I
--> I am still passionate about new stuffs
--> I came lil more close to my family, reason might be quite possible that I had too much vacations this year
--> I got whooping increment in my salary
--> I finished my long uni due.
--> I had a good room mate, like last year
--> Still hold some good hearted friends around.
--> Celebrated 2nd 31st dec. being in same company
--> Tension between India n Pakistan seems reduced, and proportionally less number of deaths in J&K.

some small points
--> I didn't lost my wallet{I did lost last year}
--> My eyesight is still good and don't wear specs, despite of the fact I had pretty irregular sleeps and long working hours.
--> I had some good trip to western ghats and Kerala
--> I have far more self confidence in myself than before.
--> I am watching good number of movies in theatre.

What I didn't liked
--> I think I am lazy towards my work
--> I am not talking about my work anymore, and getting drifted I strongly believe, but anyways, I have talked about it in this point atleast :)
--> I think I am lazy towards my work
--> Didn't had good time adapting Bangalore weather
--> Bush won again
--> Tsunami disaster
some small points
--> Never went gym this year regularly
--> I forgot my jeju's b'day
--> I didn't buyed any shoe pair :)

Another amazing note about 2004 I can say is,
World is getting weired
best rapper is a white guy, the best golfer is a black guy, the Swiss hold
the America cup, France is accusing the U.S. of arrogance
and Germany doesn't want to go to war", and lastly Dubai got snowfall and
there and Antartica having grass round the year

Old vidhan sabha of Bangalore

Just near to it, is getting another new one coming up(Almost finished), it is needed or not I am not very sure.
